Safe navigation through busy waterways:  Alarm zones

Anyone who has ever sailed on the North Sea knows how busy, varied, and demanding these waters can be. Take wind farms, for example: you are allowed to sail right through some, but at others, you risk an unwelcome visit from a patrol boat and a hefty fine.

To provide more clarity, we have added alert zones to the DKW 1600+ . At a glance, you can see which areas have restrictions, such as wind farms and nature, anchorage, and test areas. You can click on a number of zones for additional information.

If you do sail into a restricted area, WinGPS will warn you with an audible signal. This way, you have everything at hand to plan a safe route and complete your voyage worry-free.

Please note: These new alert zones can only be used in WinGPS 6 Pro, Voyager, and Inland (2026 & newer). Check your WinGPS version now and upgrade if necessary.

Know where you can and cannot navigate: The new alarm zones and VHF zones are online. This keeps you even better informed about where you can and cannot navigate on larger bodies of water, such as the North Sea. Avoid annoying fines and unsafe situations; download the latest WinGPS 6 and DKW 1600+ now and use this new information when planning your route!

New: VHF zones

In WinGPS 6 Pro, Voyager & Inland 2026 edition

Always have the right channel at hand: VHF zones are now available in WinGPS 6 Pro, Voyager, and Inland, starting with the 2026 edition.

This allows you to see at a glance which VHF channel corresponds to that area. Clicking on it provides more information.

The VHF zones can be fully customized: they can be turned on or off per country, or made active but not visible on the chart. This keeps your chart view uncluttered while sailing.

At the top of WinGPS, next to your SOG and COG, you now also see the VHF zone of your current position. See the image below.
